Inaugurated in June 2011, the impressive Cristobal Balenciaga museum pays respect to the life and legacy left by Cristobal Balenciaga, an icon of high fashion in the 1950s and 60s.
Following a welcome cocktail, you’ll see dresses he designed, each one more splendid than the one before, and displayed like real masterpieces.
A fashion genius from a very young age, Balenciaga is well known for having transformed the female silhouette thanks to his trademark – broad shoulders and a slim waistline. In the 1950s, his high-waisted Empire coats and kimono coats became fashion legends. Balenciaga designed for the most famous celebrities and royal family members. In particular a jacket and dress designed for Grace Kelly, or the wedding dress for Queen Fabiola of Belgium.
Located in the medieval port town of Getaria, the designer’s hometown, the museum itself is a masterpiece comprised of two buildings with impressive architecture - the Aldamar Palace, and an annex with long curved lines and glass walls, designed by Cuban architect Julian Argilagos.
You’ll re-board your ship seeing art and this great fashion designer’s talent in a whole new light.
